Laura Terrell is Deputy General Counsel and Head of Conflicts Management for FTI Consulting, overseeing the matter intake process and client relationships. Laura has global experience advising on litigation, government investigations, corporate internal investigations and compliance, anti-bribery and anti-corruption matters, regulatory matters, corporate governance and reporting, government affairs, sanctions and export controls, employment and whistleblower issues.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Laura was a Partner in the Washington, D.C., office of DLA Piper, where she represented and defended corporations and individuals in a number of industries, including pharmaceuticals and life sciences, fast moving consumer goods, oil and gas, financial services, energy, higher education, hospitality and leisure, engineering and telecommunications. In addition, she has provided legal and strategic business advice, training, and communications/public relations assistance for national and multinational companies, including those in the Fortune 100 and those with more than 100,000 employees.
Laura has advised and represented companies in a wide variety of compliance matters, including the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, the UK Bribery Act, sanctions and export controls regimes and the False Claims Act, both in developing and enhancing compliance programs and in responding to government inquiries and investigations.
Before entering private practice, Laura was a Special Assistant to the President at the White House, serving as a commissioned officer and handling homeland security matters. Laura also served as Deputy Assistant Attorney General at the US Department of Justice, overseeing more than one-third of the civil litigation caseload for the Civil Division and matters involving the Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Trade Commission and the Food and Drug Administration. Laura also served as Clearance Counsel in the White House Counsel’s office, handling background, clearance and ethics issues for presidential and U.S. Senate-confirmed appointees. She also previously served as a Trial Attorney with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, Division of Enforcement, and clerked for the Honorable James E. Bradberry of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
Laura holds a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, an M.A. from the University of Virginia and an A.B. from the College of William & Mary. Admissions include District of Columbia and Virginia.
Laura is also a Managing Director of Golden Seeds, an investment firm that invests in early-stage women-led companies, and is a leading force in focusing on women’s leadership, gender diversity, entrepreneurship and job creation.
