Geoff Budge is a Managing Director at FTI Consulting. He is a member of the Forensic and Litigation Consulting segment and is based in Cape Town, South Africa. Geoff he delivers Forensic Investigation services, with a strong focus on the use of data analytics and other enabling technologies in conducting successful investigations.
Geoff has more than 24 years of technology and related experience of which more than 10 years were in the area of Forensic at a Big Four firm. He has extensive investigation, risk management, software design and development, and IT project management experience.
Geoff has international and regional experience in delivering reactive investigations, proactive forensic risk management and other technology-focused consulting engagements over the past 14 years. These covered fraud investigations, intellectual property compliance reviews, digital evidence recovery, data analysis, litigation support & testimony and IT consulting engagements.
He has contributed to and managed various forensic investigations across a wide range of industries and areas of business, including procurement, accounts payable and human resources at major financial institutions, government departments, mining houses, airlines and large retailers.
A factor critical to the success of previous engagements has been Geoff’s drive to incorporate technology and data analytic techniques to ensure a positive outcome in the most efficient manner.
During his career Geoff has developed and utilised many technical skills and proficiencies. These skills relate to general forensic as well as technology-focused investigations, software development (programming and database management) and advanced data analytics. Geoff has focused on employing technology wherever possible when conducting forensic investigations. More detail on specific tool skills and experience can be provided on request.
Geoff served on the Global Forensic Technology Steering Committee of a Big Four firm for over a year, and was also the joint lead for Forensic Technology in the EMEA region. He has also led a national Forensic data analytic team for a number of years and been responsible for a team delivering technology-related services in the Cape Town market.
Geoff has delivered numerous technical training courses around the world and contributed to a number of internal software development efforts at a Big Four firm. He has also presented at many external conferences and client events on the use of technology in forensic investigations.
