Manuel has more than 27 years of experience in Financial Restructuring and workout, having developed his professional career in various roles at Banco de Santander.

Head of Restructuring and Workout - (Recovery & Assets Sales)

  • Financial restructuring and debt refinancing of mid-market companies, including debt to equity processes.
  • Led negotiations in relation to Project Phoenix – an Asset Management unit sponsored by Spain’s leading financial institutions with the purpose to restructure troubled companies and maximize recovery through debt-to-equity conversions.
  • Led various single name and portfolio NPA disposals; responsible for the creation of internal teams and procedures as well as the coordination and negotiation with potential investors.
  • Manuel attended internal Risk Committee and/or Executive Committee and executed in excess of €2bn of single name exposure and over €5bn in NPA portfolios.
  • Managed relationships with the Servicers (REO and Non-Performing Debt) overseeing judicial processes and the disposal of RE assets from secured NPLs (Aktua; Altamira in Spain, Secorse in México, etc.).

Head of Global Wholesale Corporate Risk - (Risk Division)

  • Responsible for managing admission process and risk exposure of more than 300 worldwide big corporate names including those managed by the Global Banking Division. 
  • Commercial Regional Manager Eastern Andalucía
  • Head of retail operations in the four eastern provinces of Andalucía, Leading more than 150 branches and more than 2.000 employees.
  • Managing relationships with major clients including public institutions, corporates and private banking.

Project & Acquisition Finance

  • Responsible for an +50 strong team executing transactions globally.
  • Directly responsible for > 30 transaction (incl. wind, cogeneration, solar, biomass and biofuels) managing risk authorization process, negotiation of legal agreements and syndication process.
  • Notable acquisition finance transactions Acciona acquiring 20% stake in Endesa; Sacyr acquiring 20% stake in Repsol.

Manuel holds a B.Sc., in Economics, from Universidad de Sevilla.
