John Evans is a Senior Managing Director at FTI Consulting in Frankfurt’s Transaction Services Practice. Mr. Evans has over 30 years of experience in professional practice in the German market and over 20 years of experience advising on private equity transactions.
Prior to joining FTI, Mr. Evans was a partner with KPMG where he set up and ran their German transaction services practice for over 10 years, subsequently taking on the role of head of Private Equity in Germany.
His experience spans both large LBOs and mid-market transactions in Germany and more widely in Europe and covers acquisition due diligence, vendor due diligence and advising on all accounting aspects of acquisitions and disposals including public to private transactions and contract disputes.
Prior to joining FTI, Mr. Evans served as a member of the audit committee and supervisory board of German department store group, Karstadt. He joined FTI‘s Frankfurt office in March 2014 to focus on transaction services for Private Equity funds.
Mr. Evans has worked on transactions spanning a broad range of sectors. His experience in the automotive sector includes work for a financial sponsor on the potential acquisition of the European operations of General Motors as well as numerous private-equity backed buy-outs of tier 1 and tier 2 suppliers to the automotive industry. In addition, Mr. Evans has supported clients on a number of transactions in the chemicals industry, working on large divestitures for German chemical groups such as Henkel and BASF as well as supporting private equity buy-outs of numerous chemical manufacturers and distributors. Experience in consumer and retail includes extensive work for a large German department store group and advising on private-equity led buy-outs of high street stores and retail fashion businesses. Further experience in the health-care sector includes financial due diligence on German hospitals and nursing homes and various medical practices and medical technology businesses.
Mr. Evans read law at Oxford University and was called to the English Bar in 1979. He subsequently qualified as a Chartered Accountant in England (1982) and, following a move to Germany with a big-4 firm, later qualified as a Wirtschaftsprüfer (German registered auditor) in 1993.
Following initial experience as an audit and general practice partner in Germany, Mr. Evans specialised in transaction services work, providing financial due diligence and other services to both strategic and financial investors. He has assisted many international companies from the US, UK and Asia making investments in Germany. Mr. Evans has also worked for a variety of German corporations including Henkel, BASF, Bertelsmann and Siemens on carve-outs and divestitures, providing vendor due diligence on a number of large and complex transactions. Since 2005, Mr. Evans has focussed exclusively on private equity transactions in the German market providing financial due diligence in connection with both acquisitions and disposals.
