Adrian Smith is a Managing Director in the FTI Consulting's Economic and Financial Consulting practice and is based in London.
Adrian is a chartered accountant and has 23 years’ experience of forensic investigation and financial analysis relating to international arbitration, civil and criminal litigation, mediation, business interruption claims, business valuation, matrimonial disputes, asset tracing, and regulatory matters. He has provided advice to clients and their legal teams in Austria, France, Italy, Malaysia, Poland, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Adrian’s practice focuses on complex value, lost profits, damages and cost-based claims. He advises in the context of commercial and post-acquisition disputes typically involving contractual, accounting, auditing and financial reporting issues.
Adrian has prepared expert and other reports, including in matters before the High Court (Chancery Division, Queen’s Bench Division, the Technology and Construction Court and the Administrative Court); the Upper Tribunal, the Amsterdam Court of Appeal (Enterprise Chamber); the Court of Milan; the New Jersey State Court; the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, ICC, ICSID and LCIA arbitration forums; and the Financial Conduct Authority’s Regulatory Decisions Committee (RDC).
Adrian has given oral evidence before the High Court and the RDC.
Adrian has been appointed by the Financial Conduct Authority (formerly the Financial Services Authority) as an investigator under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 and has also undertaken regulatory financial investigations for agents of the Treasury Solicitor (now the Government Legal Department) and the UK government’s Department of Trade and Industry (now the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy).
Adrian began his career within Touche Ross & Co / Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu (now branded Deloitte) auditing large, international companies. He was a member of the management consulting team that advised the government regarding privatisation of the UK’s regional electricity companies and the liquidation team following the collapse of the Bank of Credit and Commerce International SA.
Adrian is a chartered accountant and a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. He is a practising associate of The Academy of Experts.
