FTI Consulting Appoints Blanca Perea Solano to Run its Energy Practice in Spain
The global business advisory firm has reinforced its specialist energy team, underpinning its growth in the Spanish market
Madrid, 6 October 2016 — Global business advisory firm FTI Consulting has appointed energy expert Blanca Perea Solano to lead its energy practice in Spain. This appointment underscores the firm’s strategy of enhancing its growth in the Spanish market by extending its specialist services in key economic sectors requiring expert regulatory, strategic, technological and financial knowledge.
Blanca Perea has more than 15 years’ experience in the energy sector, and has worked on regulatory and competition issues — studying the impact of legislative reforms, new policies and energy efficiency programmes — as well as market research and the financing and valuation of energy assets, among others. She has recently participated as an expert witness in numerous lawsuits pertaining to the electricity reforms in Spain, obtaining the first favourable ruling from the Spanish Supreme Court.
Blanca Perea joins the firm after almost three years as a partner at Bluecap Management Consulting. Previously, she was a senior manager at PwC’s energy practice and managing director of COGEN España, the Spanish Association for the Promotion of Cogeneration.
Blanca Perea has a Ph.D. in Engineering, Nuclear Engineering and Physics from Catalonia’s Universidad Politécnica, and was a researcher at CERN (the European Organization for Nuclear Research) for eight years. She also holds an MBA from Georgetown-ESADE.
Blanca Perea’s incorporation as Managing Director of FTI Consulting’s energy services will fortify the organisational structure of the Spanish team, which now comprises 60 professionals.
“As well as securing Blanca’s top-level experience and knowledge, this appointment underpins our expansion plan in Spain, which is largely focused on providing specialist advisory services through the combination of prestigious global experts and local teams,” said Sergio Vélez, Head of FTI Consulting in Spain. “This approach allows us to harness all the capabilities, resources and technical, jurisdictional and regulatory knowledge the firm has to offer.”
Vélez added, “The energy market is more global, dynamic and challenging than ever before. Companies face complex, business-critical strategic, financial, regulatory and technological challenges. In Spain, factors such as the transformation of the energy mix, the design of the wholesale market, policies supporting the development of renewable energies, the regulation of transmission and distribution, the stimulation of the retail market and the digital transformation will all be among the key issues in the coming years. We are convinced that FTI Consulting will continue to add value for the industry as it undergoes its inevitable evolution and transformation.”
Through its international energy practice, FTI Consulting provides multidisciplinary solutions in financial processes — transactions, M&A, operational and digital restructuring, valuations — litigation consulting — investigations, witnesses and arbitration, competition advisory and government panels, etc. — and regulatory and strategic issues, as well as consulting on matters of economic policy related to competition, risk analysis and commercial and strategic projects.
