Joel Kibazo is a Managing Director at FTI Consulting and is based in London. Joel works in our Strategic Communications segment and also supports the entire range of FTI Consulting’s activities in Africa.

Joel previously served as Director of Communications and External Relations at the African Development Bank, the continent’s premier financial and economic development institution where he worked closely with a wide range of partner institutions including the US Treasury, British and African governments, and numerous public and private sector institutions.

Prior to this role, Joel worked at the Commonwealth Secretariat, the inter-government body serving the 52 nations of the Commonwealth, and for 12 years he was also a journalist at the Financial Times covering the African business and financial sector. He has worked extensively in broadcasting, reporting and presenting business, education and cultural programmes for the BBC and several other broadcasters.

Joel holds a BA (Hons) in Social Sciences (Economics/Sociology/Politics) from the University of Sunderland, an MA in International Business and Economic Development from the University of Reading and an MBA focusing on Marketing & International Business from the University of Bradford.

Joel is a member of the Policy committee at the Centre for the study of African Economies at St. Anthony’s College, University of Oxford; a Council member (board) for the Royal African Society; was a member of the World Economic Forum Global Agenda Council; an Advisory board member of the Official Monetary & Financial Institutions Forum and is a Member of CNN African journalist of the year award panel (previously the former Chairman). He is also a former Associate Fellow (2008-2010) for Business & Economics at Chatham House.
