Brian Kushner is a Senior Managing Director and Leader of Private Capital Advisory Services at FTI Consulting, and is based in Dallas. Dr. Kushner also co-leads both the Technology and the Aerospace, Defense and Government Contracting practices. Over the past 20 years Dr. Kushner has served as Chairman, Director, CEO/interim CEO or CRO of over a dozen public and private telecom, media and technology (TMT) companies.

In addition, since 2000, Dr. Kushner has led or supported more than 50 engagements involving all aspects of TMT, including semiconductors, gaming, consumer electronics, broadcast TV, software, integrators, auto parts, defense contractors, cable, equipment manufacturers, ISPs, call centers and data center providers. These projects have involved every aspect of corporate performance, from strategy and go-to-market planning to revenue enhancement to cost cutting to supply chain management to logistics/returns management to over-the-top transmission to restructuring.

Dr. Kushner co-founded CXO, L.L.C., which was acquired by FTI Consulting in 2008. Over the last decade, Dr. Kushner and his former CXO partners have bought or sold over 20 companies and have conducted diligence on over 30 TMT, consumer electronics and manufacturing companies for private equity and hedge funds, along with providing assistance to organizations in go-to-market planning, IP monetization, cyber-security, mobile device management, secure cloud strategies, business process and call center outsourcing, process optimization, SG&A cost reduction and EBITDA enhancement.

In addition to his role at FTI Consulting , Dr. Kushner also currently serves as the Lead Independent Director of an ultrahigh reliability international telecom and mobile services company with operations in Europe, Asia and Latin America and an extensive IP portfolio.

Dr. Kushner was previously the Managing Member/Director and interim CEO of an IT services defense contractor with operations at major U.S. military installations and in Iraq and Afghanistan, and formerly Chairman of the Innovative Companies in the U.S. Virgin Islands, British Virgin Islands and Sint Maarten. Prior to this, he was the CEO and acting Chairman of Sage Telecom, a Texas CLEC which was sold to a strategic buyer in 2012. He led the turnaround of Sage from a loss to EBITDA of 18% of revenues in nine months, reducing bad debt from over 11% to about 2% and monthly churn from over 7.5% to under 4% in the same timeframe. As CEO and then Director of Pacific Crossing, the former Asia-Pacific affiliate of Global Crossing, he led the company through a contentious bankruptcy in the U.S., Japan, UK and Bermuda, stabilized operations, grew revenue and generated profits and positive cash flow, resolved over $2 billion in claims, resulting in the sale of the company to NTT in 2009.

At, he restructured the company through litigation, regulatory issues, credit card fraud and chargeback challenges; grew revenues and led an IT systems modernization and resolved supplier problems. As CRO and CEO at Intira, the managed applications data center company, he brought the company to cash flow neutral in 60 days and closed a 363 sale to a strategic buyer. Other recent operational and advisory engagements have included several technology and logistics company assignments, Broadview Networks, Spansion, XO Communications, Isola GMBH, Midway Games, One Communications, Nortel, PR Wireless, Holley Performance Auto Products, several cable firms and many confidential assignments. He began his career at BDM International, a defense firm, where, after 10 years, he was Chief Scientist with oversight over Advanced Technology, turnarounds and all DARPA business.

Dr. Kushner has been a testifying expert in over a dozen large matters relating to all aspects of TMT, IT, data centers and M&A. Dr. Kushner was the 1997 recipient of KPMG’s Information, Communications, and Entertainment Entrepreneur of the Year award in Austin for Industry Leadership in Entrepreneurial Companies of less than 200 Employees.

Dr. Kushner received a B.S., M.S., Ph.D. Applied & Engineering Physics, the latter with a minor in Electrical Engineering and all from Cornell University.
