Ben Tausig is a Senior Managing Director in FTI’s European Tax Services Group and leads the insurance tax offering.

Ben has more than 14 years’ experience in providing corporate and international tax advice, mainly to insurance groups. He has worked in New York for two years advising US insurance groups on US Federal Income Tax and the US Foreign Insurance Excise Tax.

Ben has expertise in FS, international tax issues, M&A transactions (buy and sell side), financing and group reorganisations.

Ben is a frequent speaker on the seminar circuit, including events organised by Lloyd’s, LIIBA, the IUA, and the Reinsurance Association of America.

Professional Experience includes:

  • Advised a number of private equity firms and multinational insurance groups on the acquisition of life insurance, general insurance, and Lloyd’s of London groups, providing tax due diligence and structuring advice
  • Led the delivery of a number of significant projects with multinational insurance groups in respect of their European group restructuring, including cross border mergers and cross border insurance portfolio transfers
  • Developed an innovative holding company structure for US non-corporate investors in the Lloyd’s of London Corporate Members which significantly reduces the US tax burden
  • Worked with the Corporation of Lloyd’s to determine whether there was a feasible operating model for the Corporation of Lloyd’s to facilitate underwriting in emerging markets including Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Malaysia and Indonesia.
  • Advised a number of private equity groups and insurance brokers on the acquisition of insurance brokers both retail and London Market, providing tax due diligence and structuring advice.
  • Advised several listed groups on the tax and commercial implications of the choice of domicile for their ultimate holding company and group reinsurance vehicle.
